I get rid of the icon that says it's there?

So I take it you are saying that the update is the responsibility of HP? I
thought it was from Microsoft like some of the ATI driver updates they send.
The icon looks the same as always and so does every other feature of this
download.

The HP update software was installed by HP. It is theirs, not
Microsoft's. Any questions about HP's software should be addressed to
HP. If you have an HP computer, there is a program that is loaded at
startup to look for updates from HP. Examine your startup with the
System Configuration Utility.

HP (and other OEM's) loads a lot of cr*p on their computers. If you take
the time to research what is starting with Windows and remove what is
unnecessary, your machine will behave better. Here are links to help
