I currently have an Asus A7V266-E motherboard with an Athlon 1900+ I want to max out this board. Which processor would be the one to go with...I know the fastest one this board can take is the 2600 but would I even be able to use the version with the 333 FSB and the Barton core or will i need a 266 T-bred? Obviously I would prefer to get the Barton chip but I dont even know if its useable with this motherboard...any help would be appreciated
im almost certain that you could drop a barton in there as long as it suppports the right voltage. the only problem you will have is that it will be running on a 266fsb not 333fsb. so a barton 2500 which normally runs at 1833mhz on a 333fsb would actually run at 1466 mhz on a 266fsb. thiswould basically mean that you have a axp1700+ with 512mb cache. unless you are going to upgrade stick with a 266 tbred or you will be wasting money and performance
I am not sure of the price, so it may be cheaper to do something else, but I think if you wanted to stay with your mobo and get a Barton with 512 L2 cache then you get a 2800 MP. The MP is still 266 even though it is a Barton.
the MPs have always been around 30% more expensive than their xp counterparts. so getting a 2800mp would be ridiculously expensive i would think
for the cot of he 2800mp he could probably upgrade his motherboard and processor
In order to determine the correct cpu clock settings, one would need to take into consideration the FSB as well as the system frequency multiplier settings, right?
Ok so for example, if I have a 266 motherboard, the FSB should be set at 133MHz right? If I have a 333 board, the FSB should be at 166MHz?
So what about the system frequency multiplier? How would I be able to determine the correct settings for that? Is it more like a "guess" thing?
