Only 3.2 GHz by end of year?

A brief look at Intel's roadmap seems to indicate that they won't be getting beyond 3.2 GHz this year. Is this true?

I was hoping to upgrade when someone hits 4 Ghz and Intel seemed to be leading the way.

Where did you see that? Everything points at a release of Prescott this year running at 3.4 GHz. However, we won't see 4 GHz CPU's until sometime next year.

My system: AMD Athlon XP 3000+ CPU / TwinMOS 1Gb DDR400 / Soltek 75FRN-RL /
Sapphire Radeon 9800 Pro / Antec True Power 550W / Maxtor 80Gb ATA-133 / Hercules GTXP SC /
Samsung DVD / Lite-On CDRW

Considering that even the 865PE and 875P Desktop chipsets are not in the list, only a reference to Future Chipsets are there, then I would say that this roadmap is indeed very dated. The Prescott is definitely slated for release this year.

Its all about competition DH.
Now that Intel has the comfortable lead there is no rush to push out faster chips.
Sell the current 3Ghz 800FSB ones for as much as you can and as long as you can... thus stretching out the lifetime of the current 0.13 micron generation, earining more money and having more time for R&D.

Remembe the days of the pentium/pentium2? Remember how expensive they were and how long it was between the release of new speed grades?

Once can only hope the single chip opteron or A64 will change the landscape, though this is questionable as the A64 aint comming out for months.

The 3GHZ is a lucky shot dude, it costs so little, it's rare to get such. I say we should all enjoy this rare moment. Intel dropped the price on the 3.06GHZ, and they can't sell a lower clocked one for more, so they had to follow suit and make it for the same price or even less. This only happened here, but it won't remain once the 3.2 comes and breaks back to 600$.
Thank god for the new Canadian dollar, now it ain't gonna touch 900$ CDN!
