Subject: Compatibility & such

I am a newbie when it comes to computers. I am just staring to survey for a new computer but all these guides confuse me, seeing how i only understand half of what's been said in the guides i've decided to ask some questions :)

--compatibility is from what i've seen the biggest concern... what notes should i be keeping in mind when putting together a computer so i don't buy a component that might linger the full potential of another? eg. ram mhz / cpu fsb / motherboard features?

( i have no clue -_- , after reading 7 or so guide i just got more confused. Oh ya, my purpose is to replace my current 6 year old system so i can play the new games)

Thanks!

Check out this thread. I just built a middle of the road gaming system for less than 800.00$ shipped w/monitor. I ended up not needing hard drives, but a good one would still put you right at 800 dollars. Also I really wanted a Black PC, so if you use standard beige then it is a bit cheaper too. I didn't need speakers either cause I have them too.

Just a computer junky

You gota love that system. However since the price of Amd procs took a big dive today, you may want to shell out a few extra bucks and get a 2400 or a barton xp2500 with the extra L2 cache.
