Usb drivers for hp 400 deskjet

I connect the printer with a USB to Parallel printer cable and all i get is the paper advance to the top of page, then the printer just prints one lne over and over again untll I turn the printer off and dump the print queue. Is there a driver that I need for work the USB ste ue

Usually all you have to do is run the install disc and on it is the driver for the OS that you have.

I don't have an install disk as te drivers are resident in Windows 7. I have used the adice from HP website but no good.Is there a seprate USB Driver somwhere for this printer. I'm nerous about driver web siteas as you get more than you bargained for.
