Best direction for indoor antenna

Forum Home Theatre : HDTV Best direction for indoor antenna

I live in a Manhattan studio apartment on W. 16th in Chelsea. I have two windows that face east but in my case that means facing the wall of another building about 20 ft away. And I use an indoor antenna for my HDTV
For a long time I was able to leave my indoor antenna in one position and I got all the local stations and a couple of UHF's as well.
Lately I've not been able to get all the channels at the same time no matter how I situate the antenna (and a lot of times I only get reception when I touch the input for the coax cable on the back of my TV -- which I don't understand at all)
I wonder if anyone who lives in Chelsea, the Village or even midtown could recommend what direction is best for my antenna? And indeed, if there is a particular antenna they would recommend. I've been using Radio Shack's 40$ special
I hope to hear from someone. I sort of miss my watching TV
thanks
