Somehow, all my pictures are missing. They are not in the recycle bin
either. I don't remember deleting them but apparently I did something.

Is there any way to retrieve them?

Hi Bonnie

Have you tried searching for the files by extension in Windows Explorer? If
so, what was the result? Files don't normally just go missing. What were
you doing immediately before the files disappeared?

Will, thanks for your reply. Yes, I put *jpg into the search function and my
pictures don't come up. I used to be an ME user and since using XP, I
noticed that many of my files are duplicated in different folder in
Documents and Settings. I had deleted pictures out of 2 of the 3 folders
since pictures use up a lot of space. I figured I only needed them in one
folder. I guess I screwed up there. I read that things can remain on the
hard drive---is there a way for me to get them back?

Hi

How did you upgrade to XP from ME? Deleting those folders may have deleted
those files without any recovery procedure. However try the following 3rd
party programs:

http://aumha.org/a/recover.php
http://www.executive.com/undelete/undelete.asp

Otherwise you may be looking towards a specialised Data Recovery company
which will work out very expensive.

I tried the recovery programs you provided links to...but it didn't work. I
do have an old back up of many of the photos but not the most recent. I MUST
back up regularly.
Thanks for your help/responses.

Yup - backups are always good. I'm sorry if you've lost the most recent
'photos.

Sometimes those multiple folders aren't really duplicates. by design,
"My Documents" will also appear as subfolders under the account within
"Documents and Settings". Deleteing files in either place deletes them
in both.
