I HAVE A COMPAQ 1800T WHEN I START IT UP THE COMPAQ LOGO APPIERS AND THEN I GET A ERROR MESSAGE " SPD IS UNAVAILABLE" SYSTEM IS HALTEDAND UNDER THAN IT SAYS MEMORY SPEED UNKNOWN. IS THERE A FIX FOR THIS PROBLEM OR IS THE NOTEBOOK PRETTY MUCH A THROW AWAY.

Try starting up in safe mode to see if you can get to the desktop, the only other option is to try and get into the bios and see what it says for the memory and if it does see it in the bios.
You can always remove the cover on the bottom of the laptop and see what is in there for ram sticks.
