Computer powering down

On Saturday my Acer 1.5Mhz P4 started powering off. There have been no power failures. When I notice it has stopped working I see that the power light is still on (or back on). I press the power button and it boots and comes back up. 3 or 4 hours later it goes down again. The CPU ans power supply fans are working and there is no dust buidup inside. Any ideas what is going on?

Look at your temps- your bios might have it built in- if not there is freeware that should be able to get you some insight.

Is it completely shutting down but the PSU fan and the front lights still are on?

The quick answere that comes to mind is that if that ^^ isnt the problem than someone might have messed with the controls of the power scheme in the control panel.

Please give a more detailed description for me at least.
