hi, im running:
AMD 2100XP on Asus a7n8x deluxe. (stock fan)
radeon 9700
80gb WD HD 7200 rpm...
dying dvd rom drive
antec aluminum case with 2 generic 60mm fans (i know, i should upgrade that)
Problem, my constant cpu temp is at 50-55 C. whan i am running a 3D game temps go up to 60 and 65 C which is a bit high.
i looked at my settings and it seems like my fan speed was set at 1200rpm which i promptly put at 4500 rpm. still even with the increase the temp wont go down below 55C whan idle...
i dont think it should run this hot..right? i know the fan/heatsink is put on correctly (lever job, followed instructions and the lever is all the way down).
mobo temp is always at around 32C matter the conditions.
and someone help me ?
oh also my 12v value is a bit over (12.224) and Vcore is at 1.808V
Edited by muninn on 06/11/03 01:14 AM.

Its your vcore. Even for a palomino it should only be 1.75, and if its a tbred it should be around 1.6/1.65. Can you change that option in the bios? If so put it down to 1.75 first.
i havent changed anything in my bios since ive built my computer, so the setting for the Vcore should be on auto. appearently my bios isnt as smart as advertised. would me running it at such high v-core for few months damage anything in the computer? i dont remember if my 2400xp is tbred of palmolino atm (im at work so i cant check) but its probably the cheaper one (pal?).
so you would think that the high temp, and the jumps involved with gaming are caused by .5V difference in Vcore? as u can see i have only rudimentary knowledge of computers.
also, does anyone kbnbow at what rpm should i run my cpu fan? will running it at highest rpm damage it?
im very grateful for your help. you guys rock :]
on the Asus Boards , they are always running vCore high , NO Matter what you set it at in BIOS , Mine is set to 1.75 for a palamino but it always runs at 1.80
ALL my Asus boards (A7N8X,A7V8X,A7v333,A7V-Vm) run the vCore high , I have MSI & Abit boards that are correct
I believe Asus does this for stability reasons
yes, ive just noticed... i tried to override bios auro vcore setting, and the only value lower than 1.80 was 1.75 (?). i changed it to that, but my vcore remains at 1.8V still.
so is my computer supposed to be running this hot? should i get a better fan? please help meee....
yeah, whenever i play a game, the cpu temp jumps from 55/56 to 62/63 and at some point (and hour or rwo later) my computer just restarts withiout warning. that the heck?
Have you properly applyed your thermal paste? Or did you just use the stock thermal pad? If so, ditch it, and apply some artic silver. Also, watch out for dirt(!). One friend of mine has his computer sitting on the floor. He was complaining that his cpu temp was always too high, his heat alarm was always sounding, etc, you get the picture. Well he had the idea of opening his case; turns out that there was about 3mm of "packed" dust underneath the heatsink and around the proc. He removed it and the temperature dropped by 30 degrees celcius!!!
Never underestimate the insulating power of dust bunnies!
hmmm... the insides, at least looking through the window, look pretty clean. maybe i should look at the processor itself?
how would i go about removing the fan and the sink to begin with? is it difficult?
the thing that worries me is that since i correctly installed the stock amd sink and fan, the computer should not run that hot to begin with. yes, the vcore is a tad high, palomino ive been told is supposed to be at 1.75 while im at 1.8 (tried to change it in bios, and even tho i did, its not going down), but its still a lot of heat.
what are the other potential causes of such emission? i dont want to get a new fan to have sma e problem again.
my chasis has 2 dinky fans going 25000 rpm, but the mobo is always at 32c, and fluctuates 1-3c whan loaded... could that be the problem. thanks for helping me out guys...
The problem is probably the hold-down for your hsf. Amd is not known for shipping high end hsf units with their procs. The usual problem is that the clip that holds the hsf in place is cheap. As it looses tension the contact to the chip goes bad, so hotter temps. I never met anyone who used stock fan on a palomino. They heat too much.
could you recommend me a good heatsink and a fan for my cpu? i was thinking about getting a volcane as a fan, but the nose it generates makes me hestitant. i know nothinh bout heatsinks tho...
thanks for help
