HP reset ink cartridges HP c6800 successfully print with refilled cartridges.
===============================================================================

I think the c6800 printer device is unethically designed, with only marketing in mind,
The software is badly designed, badly implemented enough to never HP again. There are many bugs... very user unfriendly ....

but: Having it, I managed to successfully print and bypass all the problems.

A) There are techniques on the web to handle the same thing.... (hide the contacts one by one using sticky paper...)
I tried them they do not work on the C6800....
the cartridges works as a sort of usb device passing a serial, cutting off contacts does not help....

B) what does work.....
IN MGF manufacturing mode the printer IGNORES the ink levels, and prints any way ....
this is the main part of the trick.... See below set to MGF MODE.
Working in MGF mode allows all functions without the limiting checks.

sometimes you have other problems:
Ex: Nozzles Dirty.... clogged

I think the printer has a good self maintenance .... heads stay good for a long time but....

Clean the heads: procedure see Below :

C) cleaning the pipes // filling the pipes with ink
in-between the cartridge and the nozzle there is a pump....
the pump get the inc from the cartridge to the nozzle....
but sometimes there is air .... other stuff.....

You need sometimes to initialise the INK system.....
but for that you normally need the original (special) HP cartridges that originally came with the machine ....

Yes but there is a bypass...... if you ignore all the complaints and pestering from HP see procedure below :

D: Nozzle test
Push RE(red eye) and PF (Print pictures) at the same time .....
the printer asks for a key combination .....
this combination is special,,,,, RE then PF and again RE(known mode )
using arrow right go to testing mode hit OK
and come to nozzle test ....
allow it to work
you need to power down and up again the clear the errors ..... and advance

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Detailed procedures :

1)Set to MGF mode
Push RE(red eye) and PF (Print pictures) at the same time .....
the printer asks for a key combination .....
this combination is special,,,,, PF then RE and again RE
using arrow right go to SET BOOT MFG mode hit OK to set it

cancel(repeat) until back in printer mode and reboot the printer ....
It might come up with a bar pattern at start up... this is off mode
hit power on again (sometimes 2 times... or it takes a little while
until it accepts the start-up.

It says not to ship the printer like this....
I can believe it (It bypasses the ink checks....)
It works though like in normal mode ......

You can do anything except reinitialize the ink....(special cartridges needed???)

2) set to Normal mode
(you need it to reinitialize the ink if the printer runs empty)
Push RE(red eye) and PF (Print pictures) at the same time .....
the printer asks for a key combination .....
this combination is special,,,,, RE then PF and again RE(known mode )
using arrow right go to SET SYSTEM SETTINGS mode hit OK
use right arrow to pass Hardware Reset
use right arrow to pass INK Reset
use right arrow to go to SET BOOT to User MODE
Hit OK to activate
Hit cancel multiple times to EXIT the mode
Reboot Printer (Power down / on)

You work in the User mode
-Ink levels are probably overdrawn
-cartridge over aged
-......all kind of problems ....

This mode is useful to RESET the ink SYSTEM and INK pump
3) reset a printer error ...
sometimes the printer complains... the firmware is badly written and it complains allot even for the wrong thins....
what is annoying is that you sometimes do not see the real error put it only repeats the last error and refuses to continue...

you need to reset the error to be able to continue working :::(a pain in the ass)

Push RE(red eye) and PF (Print pictures) at the same time .....
the printer asks for a key combination .....
this combination is special,,,,, RE then PF and again RE(known mode )
using arrow right go to SET SYSTEM SETTINGS mode hit OK
use right arrow to go to Error Reset
hit ok to clear ..... cancel to get out of the menu again

most of the time you need to power down and up before the error is cleared .....

4) reinitialise the ink system.

as the for any given colour the pipes did run empty .... you need to re-initialise the printer .....
it is tricky and nasty since the special serial codes of the (INITIAL cartridges are required !!!!!!)

but there is a way around it AND it's nasty :

A) clear all errors (see above reset printer error)
B) set to initialize ink system :

Push RE(red eye) and PF (Print pictures) at the same time .....
the printer asks for a key combination .....
this combination is special,,,,, RE then PF and again RE(known mode )
use right arrow to pass Hardware Reset
using arrow right go to SET SYSTEM SETTINGS mode hit OK
and cancel to get back to the main menu

Initialise mode only works in user mode so
you have to go to user mode AS WELL after setting the initialisation (see 2) set to Normal mode)
I know it is annoying ... but you still have your printer .....

exit the menu now (multiple cancel) till in the menu .....
and power down and up again.....
the printer COMPLAINS NOW.... I said it is badly programmed ...... and gets even more annoying .....

but the only thing you can do is following
A) Clear the errors .... I know you need to restart every time ..... (I said it was annoying ....)
B) Switch of the INITIALISATION mode ( same thing as switch on ... it toggles between on and off/ see the beginning ....)
if the initialisation mode is switched off again with errors cleared ... it will correctly continue .....

the printer will complain now about empty and or bad cartridges ........
With all the cartridges you have switch cartridges until it only complains about empty cartridges ....
(do this one by one per colour ....
on every operation you will (I hope here the pump doing long cycles for each colour)
it refills the pipes and the nozzle .... This process takes time and patience ... sometimes
you need to clean the heads sometimes you do not ....
replace the problem (ink not printing cartridges ...) to force the pump to initialize ....
until it stops .... try if works ok if fails .... retry ... (painstaking)

You cannot print and try in this mode .... it thinks the ink is empty .... so to try
you need to switch to MFG mode ...

it's pain staking and annoying but it works.....

AS ALL CARTRIGES ARE IN THE EMPTY STATE .. THE INIT PASE IS CANCELED .....
but this does not mean it works .... if no reattempt the initialisation process... (fill the pipes...)

n) Cleaning the printer heads:
A) it is difficult to open the printer (dismount) so do not ....
B) after dismounting you cannot get at the heads so do not dismount....

To clean the heads take a page : 1.5 cm by 30cm paper Ribbon.
Put simple scotch (or other adhesive tape) on the back...
to make it strong and do not allow water to penetrate the printer
on the front use water adhesion kitchen cleaning paper and stick it to the front

Power down the printer:
print a page , open the cover in the middle of the process and pull the PLUG
the heads are running free now ...

drop your paper, under the head (where you see the half printed paper...)
but keep the edges accessible .....
run the head over it .... (it's running free now ....)

now make the kitchen paper wet( be reasonable) and run the heads right over it
with a page of 30 CM you can stick the edges together over the head
and force (little bit) the wet paper against the unexposed print heads ....

as you fix the paper you can even print with the cleaning setup fixed to the head
the wet paper moves with the head .... but the ink goes in the isopropyl solution

leave it for several days standing still if need be ... sometimes after weeks
the nozzles come free....

remove and replace as you feel fit .....

make it whet using printer cleaning material

PLease comment and ADD other procedures ....
