Hi

I'm replacing my Sony DVD recorder with a Plextor DVD recorder.

I uninstalled the Sony in device manager and then fitted the Plextor
with the same settings....grrrrrrrr

The ol drive worked on DMA with no problems...all I get with the new
one is an error message and I can't read or burn. Only way it burns
is if I set it to PMO mode....and then it's single speed. It should
be up to 16 speed.

I'm running XP and running out of ideas. I've tried updating the
Plextor firmware and that will onlywork if I take it off DMA mode.

Is there anything simple I'm missing?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Are you using the same cable? Blue connector to the board. Also check to
make sure that it is jumpered correctly.

Are you attempting to burn with proprietry Sony burning software that came
with the original drive; with Windows XP software; or with software known to
be compatible with the Plextor unit? Is the new drive set up same as the
old one (cable select, master or slave setting)?

The Sony software would normally be expected to fail with a different
manufacturer's unit and if you are using WinXP it should be checked for
proper setup.

I replaced my cdrw drive with a plextor dvd burner, my system would lock
up after trying to read a cd or dvd that I burned. Called Plextor and they
had me put the dvd burner as master (it was connected as slave) and then put
my dvd-rom drive as slave. Worked perfect after that, don't know if
that's your problem but it's something to try.
