What game is it for? If for a pinball machine, no diode needs
installation.

Actually if it's for a Pinbal Machine that originally had a rechargable
battery then yes the Diode IS required.

There are two varieties, the one with the diode allows for the use of
regular alkaline batteries, the one without allows for nicads to be charged.
