I once found some kinda tweak (registry tweak?, shell extension?) that
allowed Windows to also add recently-run *programs* to my Recent
Documents list. I've Googled heavily, but can't seem to find it
anymore. Any ideas?

Are you confusing this with "pin" to Start menu?

Yves,
I don't think so. The tweak I'm referring to caused any recently-run
programs (actually, any recently-run *shortcuts* I think) to be listed
in my Recent Documents, right along with any normal documents.

I have recent documents not turn up in Recent Documents and i have
Recent Document turned off, so i haven't tested the above.

That's the one - thank you! For the life of me I couldn't remember
where I'd found it. I've been using Mike Lin's terrific Startup Control
Panel applet for years, and I install it on every one of my clients,
machines.
