I've been using my old 17" CRT 6 years now. Now I'm using it on an 5770 at 1024x768 and I thought the day for a change must come soon :kaola:  So, I've been looking over several pages with lcd displays and sTILL I don't know which one to get... What resolution, refresh time etc. etc. Is 1440x900 a good resolution? Or should I choose a higher one?
I mention that I'm mostly using the PC for gaming so I'm not a big movie fan!
Cheers!

Are there any websites you want to be specifically looking at? What is your price in your currency (there is a little bit of flux between USD and your currency, that be different on some websites)?

Is there a certain size monitor you want? Like 21" to 24"? Or a certain resolution? Or just whatever fits in your budget?

Well, basically a good monitor for my video card. I don't want it to be below 19"

Ok well for 23" I would go for this monitor: http://www.emag.ro/monitoare_lcd/monitor-lcd-acer-v233h...

For a 21.5" monitor: http://www.emag.ro/monitoare_lcd/monitor-led-acer-p225h... This monitor is actually a tad better than the one stated above, but it is of a smaller size.

This one is also 21.5", but isn't as good, but a tad cheaper: http://www.emag.ro/monitoare_lcd/monitor-lcd-lg-w2243s-...

I would go for the 23", but if you don't want that big of a monitor (but bigger is really better) I would go for the second monitor I listed.

heck, they're great but from what I've read, my 5770 cannon handle 1080p that good :( . I've thought a smaller resolution monitor will increase performance. Bull I'll have a look over the internet again.
Thanks for the help!

I've heard that the 5770 can handle 1080p fine, but you have to turn some eye candy off. It will handle most new games at max settings at 40-50 FPS. Older games (like two or three years) shouldn't have any trouble at all at 1080p. FarCry2 and Crysis you can have with medium settings for about 30 FPS at 1080p. Some people, on the other hand, think it doesn't perform to great.

If the rest of your system is up to snuff with your 5770, 1080p will be perfect for you I think. If you have extra cash after your monitor, and if your motherboard supports it, I would crossfire your 5770 and then your rig would be perfect.

I see that you also have an 5770 and 2 x1440x900 monitors. Can it handle them both?

This is a thread another forum that people are praising their 5770 at 1080p: http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?p=29665819 .

I turn my second monitor off when I am gaming (I could game with two monitors, but it looks really weird because for RPGs the character and text ((which make it really hard to read)) is split between the bezels). Otherwise I can run all of my games at max settings at 1440x900, but I don't have any newer games except Dirt 2 demo. So you might want to start another topic asking what performance people get in newer games with their 5770s.

I will run Dirt 2 right now with one monitor and two monitors and give you my FPS. I will update or post another post once I get the results.

OK. Gonna go 2 sleep. See you in the morning!

OK so I tested and, albeit odd, here they are:

For one monitor:
Settings:
Everything highest it can go, with 4 AA and DX11 (I would've gone for 8 AA, but all I have heard is that it just sucks frame rates for little better looks).
Average FPS: 57
Minimum FPS: 47

For two monitors:
Settings:
Most things high, some medium (I think), and post processing medium, with 4 AA and DX11.
Average FPS: 65
Minimum FPS: 42

I am not completely sure why two monitors have more FPS than one does. Setting up two monitors was a bit of a hassle (I have done it before this for the Dirt 2 demo), so I think something could have gone wrong in the resolution options on the game. So I don't think that was completely right. The pixels also looked a bit stretched, nothing like I have seen of Dirt 2 Eyefinity videos on youtube where they are not stretched at all.

So, as you can see the one monitor is better for gaming. It is a smoother ride with one monitor because of less flux with the FPS.

I think the 5770 should be better than decent for 1080p gaming as long as you have a bit lower eye candy. If you are the type of person that wants everything in his games to look the best but don't really care for that high of frame rates and can live with a lower FPS (probably won't go lower than 30 depending on the game), then the 5770 will do great. If want amazing frame rates though, you will just have to be willing to lower the AA to 2 or 0 and AF to 4 or 8, then the 5770 will also do great at 1080p.

I have heard that everybody says gaming is best at 1080p (or higher resolution), so if you want to the best resolution in gameplay go for a 1080p monitor, if you want all settings maxed out but with a lower resolution go for a monitor with less pixels, your choice. If you pick lower resolution I can help you decide on a monitor.
