Hey need a suggestion on a heatsink if anyone could help. I have a Volcano 7+ running full speed and my AthlonXP 1800+ is still running 150F. I would like to be able to knock it down to about 120-130F. IF anyone could give any suggestions on a cooler about $30 to $40 I would appreciate it. Thank you. Also, I would rather it not sound like a jet engine.

Thermalright SLK-900 or 800 should be in your price range and you can top them with a low noise fan as well (70 - 92mm) It runs my AXP 2500+ @ 2GHz @ 36 degrees under full load. Great piece of kit.

4.77MHz to 4.0GHz in 10 years. Imagine the space year 2020 :)

There's something wrong there. a Volcano 7+ at full speed should be great for that chip.

do you know if your CPU is a palomino core? they did run quite hot (although the 1800 shouldn't be that hot)

I have a Volcano 7+, and an XP1700+, and my CPU temp never goes above 50C (122F), and that's running @ 2250Mhz, and 1.6V Vcore, AND on low speed setting too.

Are you sure the HSF is mounted the right way around - they only fit one way. What thermal interface material did you use? (e.g. Arctic Silver)

Do you have any case fans?

is it mounted correctly? are you using thermal paste? do you have case fans keeping cool air in there? is the ambient temp in your house like 85F?

Its probably a Palomino. If it is spend the money replacing the chip with a Tbred b rather than getting a new cooler.
