I have to replace my hard drive, but a friend told me if I get a new hard
drive, I have to buy a new copy of XP because XP can only be installed once.
Isn't there some way around that?

with friends like that who needs enemies?
If your hd is defective, replace
Boot from winxp cd, follow prompts to partition/format/install
You will also have to install your mobo chipset drivers and other hw
drivers.
Use manu sites only NOT winupdate

Not true. Windows XP can be installed any number of times
but only the specific Product Key should be used for just
**one** computer at the same time. Once installed into the
replacement hard drive, activation will probably be required.

Never, ever, take any more computer advice from that particular friend.
There's no limit to the number of times you can reinstall and
activate the same WinXP license on the same PC. Nor is there ever a
charge. Nor does a Product Key (so long as it's not an evaluation
license) ever expire. If it's been more than 120 days since you last
activated that specific Product Key, you'll most likely be able to
activate via the Internet without problem. If it's been less, you might
have to make a 5 minute phone call.

I actually only have an Upgrade CD since 2000 Professional was pre-installed
on the comuter. Will this Upgrade work the same way? In otherwords, if I
replace my hard drive, and boot from the Upgrade CD, it will fully install XP
Pro? Sorry to ask what may be stupid questions, I just want to make sure I
understand... Thanks for your help everyone....
