No sound

I have a Sony tv connected to an onkyo receiver and direct tv. The receiver is connected to seven surround sound speakers. I could control the sound either thru the tv remote and adjust the sound thru the Sony tv speaker. I could also control the sound thru the receiver for the surround sound speakers. I do not what I did. But today I can no longer control the surround sound thru the receiver for the direct tv. It works for the DVD. It works for the FM channels, but not the direct tv. Can anyone help me?

the conclusion is that there is no audio coming from the direct tv receiver
