Can someone help me, i am looking at building a new computer for high DVD encording.

Now what is the best way be go CPU whys a P4 3G with HT or Dual Xeon

Unless you are going to be crunching data 24 hours a day you dont really need a dual xeon core, a single P4 will do just fine, both the P4~533fsb and P4~800fsb are strong CPU's they will do the job. Dual Channel Memory Mode is where you will see the most gain, make sure and get an motherboard with an Intel i865, i875, or i7205 chipset, and if you are just hard set on going dual xeon get a mobo with a i7505 chipset.

A p4 3.0c will be more than adaquete for encoding dvds, I've done a bit of encodeing on my old p4 2.0b. Make sure you have a gig of ram and are functioning in dual ddr mode. You shouldn't have any problems.

The best way to go is a sweet Dual Xeon setup. Of course, the price should be enough to make you think twice. The cheapest method and one which alot of people opt for is to get the Iwill DP533 board and a pair of 2.4GHz 400MHz FSB Xeons. Then you can change the FSB jumper on the board to 133MHz and underclock the multiplier to around 22 to get yourself a sweet 3GHz dual Xeon machine for about 1/2 the price.

I am interested by the comment by sjonnie about using 2 Xeon 2.4 and overclocking them to 3G.

What I was wondering about this approach is would I require any special cooling or would the standard heat sink and fan be OK

The standard Xeon windtunnel heatsink is a pretty large affair in any case and it seems to be just fine for the overclock. You can get more information from the forums at <A HREF="http://www.2cpu.com" target="_new">http://www.2cpu.com</A>.

The reason why this is a popular option is that the Iwill DP533 board is a relatively cheap E7505 board but it also has a jumper to specify the FSB speed which no other E7505 board has. Also the 100MHz FSB Xeons are relatively inexpensive.
