I've got a AMD XP 2500+ and my temperature is about 60 degrees celsius. I know this is high, I've tried new thermal grease, I've tried silver paste, I've bought several coolers, including a Thermaltake Volcano 9, and it never drops down, I've tried different combinations of each, I've cleaned this cpu so many times! I get my readings from Asus Pc probe 2.20.07 my mobo is Asus A7V333 and my computer is currently in open air, no case just laid out on a table. Any advice?

See if you've got a newer BIOS flash available. Some of these overheat problems are sensing errors and the manufacturers will fix that in a BIOS flash...

they do call it the asus anal probe for a reason...download motherboard monitor...i beleive it takes the reading from the chip's internal thermal couple. Check to make sure the heat sink is warm (that means its contacting the cpu well) also make sure its flat on the cpu (chances are this isn't the case if you have tried many diffrent heatsinks).
