Hi,

I asked this question earlier but got only a reply that Dell should send me
one, but i've been mailing and calling them for about a week.
And have tried all departments i could reach at the Dutch Dell offices..
No luck.. They still won't send me a replacement cd.. I don't know why, i
have the key and the licence here with me..

Anyway, in October i finally recieved my system with a Dell labeled Windows
XP Media Center Edition 2005 (Dutch) cd.
The system worked great and i was very satisfied with it..
However, i decided to buy a new MCE compatible tv-tuner, the Hauppauge WinTV
PVR-500MCE dual tuner and install again from scratch.
So, i installed the card, backupped my files, formatted and tried to install
from the Dell MCE2005 cd.
After a few minutes into install, it failed -files unreadible- in the file
copy process.. I tried again and again, but no luck.. I tried to skip the
file, but one after another file failed..

I installed a Dell branded XP Home cd i got with my other Dell in March 2004
for now, and used some cd/dvd recovery tools on the MCE2005 cd.. About 40%
of the disc seemed unreadible/damaged..
Since it was my first reinstall, it had never been used..
I saw no scratches or marks.. It just didn't work..

Then i thought: if someone could just send me the cd or the needed files to
get a regular OEM MCE2005 cd to work like the Dell copy that would be
great..
But the cd itself is about 600mb and i don't know if someone is willing to
upload that amount on usenet??

So, i guess if someone would be so kind to copy the needed files to a
folder, archive it with WinRar or WinZip and upload it to my Streamload
account
(http://www.streamload.com/Roots/Upload.asp?username=allegro16&UsernameSubmitted=true&submit=Go%21)
that would be great..

So, because i got lots and lots of help in this newsgroup decided to try
here

I learned from an earlier experience with another WinXP version which files
i need.. About 12mb. -doesn't matter if it's UK, or Dutch..-

So, if someone could help me out that would be great..

You could create a batchfile that copies the needed files, from in my case
the G: drive (cd-rom) to the folder C:\XPbios.

Copy and paste this to a new txtfile (notepad) :

@ECHO OFF
:START
MKDIR C:\XPbios
MKDIR C:\XPbios\WIN9XUPG
COPY G:\I386\DPCDLL.DL_ "C:\XPbios\" /Y /V
COPY G:\I386\EULA.TXT "C:\XPbios\" /Y /V
COPY G:\I386\NT5INF.CA_ "C:\XPbios\" /Y /V
COPY G:\I386\OEMBIOS.BI_ "C:\XPbios\" /Y /V
COPY G:\I386\OEMBIOS.CA_ "C:\XPbios\" /Y /V
COPY G:\I386\OEMBIOS.DA_ "C:\XPbios\" /Y /V
COPY G:\I386\OEMBIOS.SI_ "C:\XPbios\" /Y /V
COPY G:\I386\PIDGEN.DLL "C:\XPbios\" /Y /V
COPY G:\I386\SETUPP.INI "C:\XPbios\" /Y /V
COPY G:\I386\SETUPREG.HIV "C:\XPbios\" /Y /V
COPY G:\I386\WIN9XUPG\WIN95UPG.INF "C:\XPbios\WIN9XUPG\" /Y /V
COPY G:\I386\UNATTEND.TXT "C:\XPbios\" /Y /V
COPY G:\I386\WINNT.SIF "C:\XPbios\" /Y /V

Save as for instance XPbios.bat -you may have to edit location of cd and
folder-, then save it and double cick it..

All you have to do to help me is doubleclick that file and after that use
WinRar or WinZip to archive it and upload it to
http://www.streamload.com/Roots/Upload.asp?username=allegro16&UsernameSubmitted=true&submit=Go%21

Thanks in advance,

Allegro.

This way i could finally get my system back together..

-------------------------------------------------------------------

The files i need from the Dell labeled MCE2005 cd:

-------- The needed files ---------
In folder \I386:
DPCDLL.DL_
EULA.TXT
NT5INF.CA_
OEMBIOS.BI_
OEMBIOS.CA_
OEMBIOS.DA_
OEMBIOS.SI_
PIDGEN.DLL
SETUPP.INI
SETUPREG.HIV
UNATTEND.TXT
WINNT.SIF

In folder I386\WIN9XUPG:
WIN95UPG.INF

Then you could archive it with Winzip or WinRar.

There are LOADS available for download from edonkey, but you`ll probably
have to download the whole disc :-/

The additional problem the OP has is that he has XP MCE. There are not
going to be a huge number of people who use that OS.

Since he can't get a CD via legitimate/legal means, it would seem to leave
him with no choice but to find a workable CD image from a P2P source that
will work with his purchased COA.

Bummer....

Okay. Compare that to XP Pro or especially XP Home.

Well, there are discs enough to find but not from Dell.
I need a Dell cd or just those files to have no activation and key like my
original disk had.

Hi,

The problem is that i need the Dell edition or those files from it.
Every other edition still needs a key and activation, the Dell branded
doesn't on a Dell.

P.S: I already have a regular OEM copy here from a friend, but no
licence+key. I need those files to make it work on my Dell without
activation..

And my guess my chances of finding someone with a Dell branded copy if far
greater here than anywhere else on the net..
If i just have those 12mb of files, i'm saved..

Allegro.

The COA key is on a sticker on the side of the tower. The regular OEM copy
will work just fine.

You're all set!

Hi,

Well it might be so, but i still need to activate, with my now defective
Dell copy i don't need a key and i don't need to activate.

( Like all Dell branded MS XP OS)

So, i'm still interested in a solution..

Thanks,

Allegro.

I don't think there is one. Dell is the only source for a legitimate copy.

Have you tried posting on the COmmunity Forums on support.dell.com
They're very helpful.

Well,

That should at least explain why they refuse to send a replacement..

However, it's a bit lack of service.. It was running smooth the first few
weeks, so no reason to reinstall and find out the cd is broken..

So, if Dell is unwilling to help.. I hope there are Dell users who can and
will..

(Remember, i don't really need the whole cd, that would be great but not
needed, i only need that 12mb of files to get a OEM copy to work as Dell
branded..

Allegro,

Acknowledging that you have a point, why not just go ahead and activate the
thing? Burn a copy of the OS for future reinstalls and use your Dell COA.

Unless you just want to duke it out via long hold times.
