Woah! The opteron kicked ass all over the barton in 32-bit mode, im impressed, there were some HUGE gains in performance, and it even out performed the barton in graphics intensive programs.

From Nvidias end, the Nforce3 pro250 natively supports all the latest toys we have grown to love including raid levels 0 & 1 modes, SATA and GLan. Although the pro 150 chipset is lacking in native features and relies on 3rd party solutions it promises to provide excellent performance.

From Asus end im hoping they will follow up quickly with the pro 250 chipset version of the motherboard, even though they have been somewhat cheap in this area in the recent past, and have gone with 3rd party solutions to save money instead of using chipsets that natively support the features. Saving about $3 US per mobo.
which in my oppinion is a joke because i would rather pay the extra cost to get native chipset support for these features.

Anyway AMD is getting lots of support from Nvidia and Microsoft and the future of the 64-bit AMD CPU looks good lets hope all goes well.

Well those figures impressed me a lot. In 3dm2001 the opteron got an extra 3,000 marks!!! If thats anything to go by the 1.8ghz model will get at least 18,800.If the A64 performs this well and hits 2ghz i think intel might well have some competition.

IF the A64 can perform as well as Opteron i will be impressed. remember A64 only has single channel ddr.
is it just me or did the opteron actually score LOWER than barton in a few tests? sandra MIPS and cinebench

there's something wrong in that review. They state things like "Opteron is 44% faster in Quake 3 than a similarly clocked Barton", however, the graphs indicate Opteron scoring 294fps and Barton 73fps, for instance. According to my math, this is NOT 44%.

So what the hell was going on inside those people's heads? I can't figure it out.

* Yeah, if there is an error in the article it may be a good idea to get in contact with the author(s) in order to see what's up.

* And here's an article on nForce3/Opteron Overclocking.

For those who have memory look at Xbit lab benhcmark with A64 very good performer on Game that on the rest that they are much slower that Barton and only few % faster clock for clock. On game they might be faster that Prescott but major lag on everything else.Bye bye corporation level again
Edited by juin on 07/02/03 06:40 PM.

I thought I was alone on this. Not just this, but they commented on the wrong benchmarks! Where do you see UT2003?!
EDIT: I see UT2003 Botmatch but it makes no damn sense how they seperated the results. It's not logical. Why two red bars, and why call the blue one the UT2003 Botmatch?
