I have seen that before, and I agree...
but statistically, you can state anything to your viewpoint

After reading that an ethereal light came on above my head, just think about the following as well.
There's about 1 to 100 dieties out there depending on who you ask, all with varying levels of 'power'. With aproximately 100million to 500million deaths a year attributed to "God's will", that gives you an average of at least 1 million deaths per year caused by each God and it's religion (whole numbers are so much easier than fractions
).
From those numbers we see that Religion is the most dangerous thing on the planet, and if we could only get rid of these Gods and their will or at least control them, then imagine the number of lives we could save. It'd be pretty crowded, but so much safer.
You know statistics are fun.

If the deaths are a result of the gods' wills, then it would be the gods themselves that are dangerous, not the religion, making them the dangerous thing, not the religion, yes?

But aren't Gods a product of their religious sects/cults?
Either way it's either the Gods and their supporters, or the creators of the Gods (the religious) who would be the most dangerous. Just to be safe (heck we're talking big numbers here) why not try to ban the gods, but regulate the religions (who may spawn new Gods or try to help them bypass the bans). Like they say in Aliens, Nuke 'em from orbit, it's the only way to be sure.

All weapons should be taken out of the publics hands. No handguns at all. Very limited access to hunting rifles and only to those that can prove they do hunt and must prove it yearly. If they do not apply for a hunting tag in any given year they forfeit there gun licence and need to re-apply the following season.
All hunters rifles should be locked in a single location for each area during the entire period of the year that there is no open season on the Ducks Bears or Deer the weapon is to be used for.
Every hunter will have to provide full legal documentation to sign their rifle out of the local armoury in order to hunt the animals or water foul they have a legal tag to hunt.
Any hunters in legal hunting areas hunting animals such as bears should be allowed a secondary side arm (handgun) Any hunter stupid enough to let a deer or elk kick the shiit out of him is an idiot and deserves it, and should not be issued a rifle in the first place. A bear is a carnivore and a hunter.
At least this way no criminals are stealing civilians weapons from their homes and committing crimes with them. This will limit any access to a free weapons pool the criminals currently and so readily take advantage of.
Police officers should only have access to one side arm they are registered to carry with no secondary drop piece in their sock.
Pepper spray pepper bullets and any electronic stun guns should be offered to them in massive amounts for restraint purposes and an alternative to side arm usage.
Veterans (Properly Trained Soldiers) that are approved by the Military & Civilian law, and have passed psychological testing should be allowed in civilian legal jurisdictions to have access to a firearm if needed for homeland defence purposes.
Exactly like the Israeli principals of homeland defence.
The average person goes through their entire life without even knowing personnel self defence how can we trust such a poorly trained defenceless person to properly handle a firearm.
Airline pilots generally a good bunch of people have to take firearms training and pay for it out of their own pocket in order to legally carry handguns in the cockpit of airliners. They have to pass strict psychological testing and weapons courses on close confined combat skills. These are the highly trained professionals you trust to fly jumbo jets and they cant get free handgun training from the airlines they work for and most of them are collegiate kids that have never been in a fist fight in their lives.
I suppose I could rant longer but there is no point. Guns should not be circulated through the civilian population.

I'm not against guns per se but I've been told by numerous sources that 90% of those that pull a gun get it used on themselves or get it taken away from them.
That's not cool. It's not that great of a defense.
For sport and hunting I can't argue against it but I think assault weapons are unecessary.

<b>Doctors</b>
The number of physicians in the U.S. is 853,187.
Scource: <A HREF="http://www.ama-assn.org/ama/pub/category/12930.html" target="_new">2002 figures from the AMA - American Medical Association</A>
"We estimated that in 1994 overall 2,216,000 (1,721,000-2,711,000) hospitalized patients had serious ADRs and 106,000 (76,000-137,000) had fatal ADRs, making these reactions between the fourth and sixth leading cause of death."
Source: <A HREF="http://jama.ama-assn.org/cgi/content/abstract/279/15/1200" target="_new">Journal of the American Medical Association from 1998.</A>
"Researchers at the University of Toronto examined 39 studies and estimated that an average of 106,000 deaths at U.S. hospitals in 1994 were due to bad reactions to drugs."
Source: <A HREF="http://www.cnn.com/HEALTH/9804/14/drug.reaction/" target="_new"> CNN story about this information</A>
Now that was only while patients were under direct supervision of a hospital.
<b>106,000 deaths from bad drug reactions / 853,187 physicians = 0.12424 deaths per physician</b>
The scary thought is that 4.78% of all people checking into a hospital will not come out because of bad drug reactions at the hands of physicians.
<b>Onto guns:</b>
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in 2002 there were 30,242 deaths related to firearms with a US population of 287,974,001 people.

by Philip J. Cook and Jens Ludwig</A>
“The United States is unique among wealthy nations in its vast private inventory of firearms. The nearly 200 million guns in private hands are used in part for recreation, mostly hunting and target shooting. But what engenders the most public controversy over firearms is their use against people during either the commission of or defense against crime.”
“In 1994, 44 million Americans owned 192 million firearms, 65 million of which were handguns. Although there were enough guns to have provided every U.S. adult with one, only 25 percent of adults actually owned firearms; 74 percent of gun owners possessed two or more.”
This is the 1999 figure. “There are an estimated 215 million firearms in civilian hands in the U.S.”
Source:
<A HREF="http://www.atf.gov/firearms/ycgii/1999/natrpt.pdf" target="_new"> Report November 2000, Department of the Treasury - Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms “Crime Gun Trace Reports” (1999</A>
(192 million privately-owned firearms obtained in a 1994 survey (Cook and Ludwig, Guns in America, Police Foundation, 1997, p. 14) and the approximate 22 million net supply to the domestic market over the 1995-99 period (Commerce in Firearms in the United States (1999), Appendix Tables A.1.1-A.1.3, Department of the Treasury, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, February 2000).
If we extrapolate the 22 net supplied weapons for two more years, the figure would be 259 million firearms. This is an overestimated amount because these are net sales. (New and Used) The used weapons sales are not going to add to the total amount firearms owned by the public.
However, I would rather go on the side of exaggerated caution than underestimation.
<b>Okay, that is:
30,242 deaths from firearms / 259,000,000 firearms = 0.000116764 deaths per gun
or
30,242 deaths from firearms / 44,000,000 firearm owners = 0.0006873 deaths per gun owner</b>
<b>To recap… it was 106,000 / 853,187 = 0.12424 deaths per physician.</b>
It is approximately <b>180 times</b> more likely your doctor will kill via a bad drug reaction than the owner of a firearm will. It is approximately <b>1064 times</b> more likely that your doctor will kill you via a bad drug reaction than an individual gun will.
You need to remember that the firearms figure is inclusive; no other sources to which a firearm could kill you exist. Conversely, the physician figure only includes one way that your doctor could kill you.
So the numbers originally posted are inflated but that doesn't matter. I think the point is well taken from these verifiable sources.

Maybe you should additionally consider how many people that get hospitalized, would not live if they were not to receive medical care from a doctor and how many people would not live because of abolishing firearms. This last figure is definitely not 0 because of using a gun for self-defence (assuming your assaillant does not carry a gun). Don't get your hopes up though because guns are by far used most by assailants and not by people defending themselves.
