Replacing a lid/screen

Hello,How hard is it to replace a compaq presario 1200 lid/screen? there is a crack in the hinge part and I dont know if I should just junk it. Also, even tho it was on charger all day, when I turn it on and lift the lid, it POPS off-a short, right? THANK YOU
