I'll soon be getting a new computer, but with the limited choices in Canada, it's tough to choose. This is a list of parts I'm thinking of getting, so please tell me what you think!

P4 2.4C 800MHz w/ HT
ASUS P4P800 Deluxe
2x256MB either PC3200 Winbond, TwinMOS, or OCZ PC3500 (depends on what they have)
Antec Sonata case
Alpha PAL8942
ThermalTake SmartFan 2
Sunon 120mm 106cfm fan
Keyboard, mouse, CD-ROM

I also have a Radeon 9700 and a HDD hanging around that I'm gonna use.

I'm planning on overclocking this system.

Now, one of my main questions is the dilemma between getting an IC7 or a P4P800. The IC7 is actually less expensive (~$25 less) but I'll need get a NIC. I'm following the thread at the ABIT forums and it seems like a lot of people are having problems with the on board sound, so much that ABIT has actually allowed all these people to RMA and they'll cross ship another board to you. Seeing this, I'd probably be getting a sound card, but nothing fancy as I really couldn't care less about sound.

So yeah, I was just wondering what you people would do in this case.

Thanks!

...And all the King's horses and all the King's men couldn't put my computer back together again...

I think it's mostly just a random issue with the Abit boards, most of them seem to work, reviewers have given them pretty high raves. But if you want to be assured the sound and Lan are going to work, the Asus board isn't a bad choice either. Just about all the new boards with the i865 and such chipsets have stupidly high amounts of IDE/Sara connectors anyway. Can't really go wrong with any of the springdale or canterwood boards.

I want to see an <font color=blue>Ati Radeon 99999 Ultra Pro</font color=blue>, based on the <font color=red>AtiRage core</font color=red>. And people wonder how a <font color=purple>Geforce3</font color=purple> is better than a <font color=orange>Geforce4 Mx...</font color=orange>

Yeah, I'm not at all worried about the IDE/SATA connectors. I'm gonna be plugging in all of 1 CD-ROM and 1 PATA hard drive.

Ok, well... hmmm... Anyone else, maybe with an IC7 or P4P800 have any input?

AFAIK, you're upgrading from P4 2.4B GHz. You won't see that BIG performance increase with P4 2.4C. IMO, you should get at least 2.8 GHz

Which is why I'm stuck with a 2.4C.
