Wont boot

Hello,
windows 7 on my laptop will not boot it goes to the toshiba screen then black with cursor in top left. i cannot go to safe mode or startup repair because when you hold F8 or any other key it just beeps. im trying to keep from trying the factory reset. please help! thanks

Are you sure that you have the hard drive listed as the first boot option ? If when you start and befoore you see the blinkiing curser try pressing f8 or the key that lets you go into the boot options so you can see if the hard drive is listed first.
