I reformatted using windows xp pro... the first time it was loading it
stopped half way and said i was missing root>\system32\hal.dll so I
restarted loading xp again and everything loaded good, however when my
computer is starting I am given a screen that asks which op syst i want to
run, they both are winxp pro, the first one is the good copy, the second is
the bad copy....how do I get rid of the second.... do I have to reformat
again??

Hi,

No, you don't have to start again. Click start/run, type msconfig and click
ok. Go to the boot.ini tab, click the button to 'check all boot paths'. It
should offer to remove the invalid one.
