Ok so I am re-installing my P4 2.8 ghz... after removing the black crud with goo gone I bought some thermal paste (silver stuff). So I have read all the recent posts on how to apply this stuff but my question is .... Do I leave the "aluminum foil"-like patch on the bottom of the heat sink or do I remove that before I apply the thermal paste?? Also, the intel website says I will void my warranty if I screw this up and don't use their thermal solution...
What do you think????

As far as I know, you can only have one or the other - leave the silver foil stuff on and don't use thermal paste, or remove it and use the paste. I've never done that myself though, so wait for a second opinion just in case.

Yep, pretty sure that's right. Be careful with the thermal paste because it's conductive.
