The following is a set of components I have purchased for my new rig:

1. Intel P4 2.4C
2. 2x512 MB DDR 400 MHz RAM
3. MSI Neo 2 (Intel 865PE)

I am going to exchange the video card I purchased for a Radeon 9500Pro, 9600Pro, or 9700 non-pro, depending on price (I erroneously purchased an ABIT Siluro 256MB DDR RAM GeForce FX 5600 DT).

Here are the other components that I am salvaging from my current computer:

1. Soundblaster Live! 128
2. 40x CD-ROM
3. Disk Drive
4. Linksys Network Card

My question is: What kind of case would I need? How much juice? Should it have side fans and such; I want to keep this cool and silent. Also, if I want to overclock the processor, what equipment should I purchase? I am not going to order a case or fans over the internet; I am just asking for mainstream components that can be purcahsed at my local store here:

Thanks in advance.

Antec Sonata, Antec Sonata, or Antec Sonata.

No seriously, it's a good case. :) Sure there are others, but I'm sure other people will get around to suggesting those. So I'll just concentrate on my favorite. :) It has two 120mm fan vents. Low RPM, high air throughput, very little noise... it's hard to beat for a silent computer.

Of course it's probably of no real help to you because the store that you're buying from has a really horrible selection. I'd say go with a Lian-Li of some sort if you're just going to shop there.

If you're looking to that place to meet all of your computer needs though you're in for a rough ride. No offense but they have a really crappy selection and over-genericize. The only case fan that they even have is a 'secondary case fan'. I mean, come on, what size is that? Is it a 60mm, an 80mm, a 92mm, a 120mm? What's its noise level? What's its air flow? And don't even get me started on their memory selection...

But hey, if you don't want to order over the internet, that's your choice.

I have decided only to purchase the processor and motherboard from there. For the RAM and case, I will turn to an online store. Which good online service would have a good grey case (or something of similar colour, to match with my monitor and speakers which are grey), brand-named RAM, that can ship to Canada? Preferably, are there any good Canadian online stores?

There must be a few, but unfortunately I don't know them off hand. :(

I'm sure others around here do though. :)

Come out THG Canadians and help out...

ncix.com seems to be a pretty good Canadian site, that has a good selection, and relatively cheap prices (I think?). I ordered a Soltek motherboard from them about a year and a half ago, and the price and service was good. However, if you need to call them for any reason, it's of little help because the people who answer are Asian, and very hard to understand at times.
