Well, in sounds (control panel) one can pick what sound one wants to hear for
the default beep. Which makes me ask - what's the default beep, exactly?
But specifically, I hear the default beep everytime I close certain Windows
associated windows - control panel, my computer, IE, printers, etc. Posted
a question about why I might be getting this some time ago, but no answers...

Default Beep defaults to Windows XP Ding.wav
If you're hearing the Windows XP Ding.wav when you close programs, change
it.
Open Sounds and Audio Device Properties...
Start | Run | Type: mmsys.cpl | Click OK |
Sunds tab | Set Close Program to (None)
That's what I have. I know when I close a program, no need to hear a sound
when it happens.
Click the Play button to hear what sounds you have for whatever events.
[[Plays the selected sound. When the sound plays, this button changes to a
square block or a Stop button. Click the Stop button to stop playing the
selected sound.]]

Is the Windows XP Ding.wav what you're hearing? Look at the events and see
what else besides Default Beep is using Windows XP Ding.wav. My Sound theme
has about one thing left that is default and Default Beep is it.

Yep - it's the Ding, and it's only used for default beep. Events viewer
doesn't give me any error, either.

By [[Look at the events and see
what else besides Default Beep is using Windows XP Ding.wav.]]
I meant look through the Program events in Sounds and Audio Device
Properties
Start | Run | Type: mmsys.cpl | Click OK |
Sunds tab |
Not the Event Viewer.
Click the Play button to hear what sounds you have for whatever events.
[[Plays the selected sound. When the sound plays, this button changes to a
square block or a Stop button. Click the Stop button to stop playing the
selected sound.]]
Or just look for Windows XP Ding.wav in the Sounds box.

Under Sounds/Close Program/Sounds: Select (None) as all of my systems are
set here from default and always has/have been. Why your system is
different, only you can help us there... )

That's just the thing - it does say NONE for close programs (and always has).
Which is why it makes me crazy that it beeps!

Okay - silly question, probably, but how SHOULD those keys read?
Thanks!
