what is the diffrent between t-bred B n barton processor? why is barton rated higher than t-bred although its clock speed is lower than t-bred? and what is diffrent in term of overclocking? which 1 is better in oc
what is the diffrent between t-bred B n barton processor?
t-breds have 256kb of L2 cache and Bartons have 512kB L2 cache. Most of the t-breds run at 266FSB except a few high end ones run at 333FSB. Bartons run at 333FSB and the few high end ones run at 400 FSB.

i never understood the PR ratings of ths AMD CPUs, but to answer ur question, Bartons are rated higher even when they run at lower clock b'coz they have more L2 cache.

Go for a low end chip, like a 1700+ t-bred B core which most of the time easily overclocks to about 2000MHz (equivalent to 2500+) and sometimes goes as high as 2200MHz(2800+) to 2300MHz(2900+). If u do want the barton, (of course with this u wont have to upgrade a little sooner than u might want/have to if u get the 1700+) get a 2500+. This chip easily overclocks to speeds of 3000+.
My 2500 was easy to overclock without modifiying the chip. Just changed the multiplier from 11 to 12.5, and gained almost 300Mhz. Not running much hotter either.
Not bad for about $125 in a retail box (recommeded) which also comes with a very quiet cooler. (not silent, but not bad)... compared to the boxed 1800, that thing was LOUD.
Yeah the newer HSFs that accompany the AMD processors are a lot silent. My HSF that i got with my 1700+ runs at 3300rpm and when the Q-Fan in my ASUS mobo kicks in, the HSF runs at 2300rpm...
Does it depend on what MB you have to change the multiplier. I have the MSI K7N2G board and didnt see a multiplier on it. Just a fsb and cpu/fsb option.
can get either the lower set (12.5 or under) or the higher set (13 or better).
That's the fault of the chip, not the mobo. which range of multipliers depends on whether some bridges are connected, but I can't remember which (L5?).

$hit Happens. I just wish it would happen to someone else for a change.
'twas just a figure of speech, I didn't mean 'fault' as in 'defect' just meant that you can't blame the motherboard for it...

sorry for the confusion

running a barton 2500+
The computer is at my sister-in-laws so I cant really access it right now. Wont be overclocking anytime soon was just curious because I was going to try it before I gave it to her. Sure wish I could keep myself but her mom is paying for it.
