Ouch, if you just look at the financials. Intel's net profit was more then AMD Gross Income.

I'm still hoping that HP buys out AMD eventually. :O

I want nVidia to buy AMD. If IBM buys them they will run them into ground like they did with Cyrix. If nVidia Buys them they will at least try to run it better then IBM. Also nVidia can use AMD's fab to mfgr their GPU's. I think nVidia has more to gain then IBM has from buying AMD.

IBM can not and will not buy AMD. Monopolies, unless granted by the government, are illegal. Last I checked AMD and IBM are a duopoly thus combining them is a monopoly. Remember Microsoft? As long as AMD exists as a pseudo competitor and IBM is making billion dollar quarterly profits then IBM is set.

Have you, like, completely omitted Intel out of the picture?

If IBM owned AMD, how in the world is that a monopoly if it will only strengthen the engineering of the K8-K9 against Intel and make IBM a much more powerful company?!
If anything it only makes a better competitor to Intel.

Also, considering IBM has a HUGE image in the IT world, and a reputation, if they badly manage AMD's remnants, THEY will suffer. That in a way would incline anyone to believe they would definitely take care of AMD. Else, to see IBM no longer having a good rep would be devastating to the IT world, or the IT world would be devastating to IBM as they will lose customers.

Now that was funny. Not that AMD's remnants are uninteresting or anything, but it's like slvr_phoenix said: you could assign monkeys to run AMD and they'd be doing a better job than AMD's management lately...
