reading up on these centrinos makes my mouth water, finally intel is going the efficient route in processing. Rather than chalking up clock speeds they are working on branch prediction with bigger caches and all around good cpus. Ironic that they will be using AMDs mhz doesn't matter marketing to sell these. If they start to use a model system the world really will have turned upside down!

Especially ironic considering that MHz DOES matter with AMD right now, their latest processors aren't fast enough to justify their ratings!

Centrino makes my mouth water a bit as well... Have you read up on Dothan? Architectural enhancements, doubled cache... mmm... Speeds of up to 2.0Ghz... And with Dothan, the prices on Banias-based Centrino platforms will drop sharply. Plus, Intel will introduce Banias-celerons - and if they don't castrate banias terribly, they should be an interesting product for 2004!

I know the dothan is beautiful, it's a shame I can't wait for it, I need a notebook now. I wonder if intel will start turning to more efficient cpus for their desktop line rather than just brute force with long pipelines and lots of mhz. Perhaps after prescott. I'm not going to buy prescott with that built in spyware stuff, all this [-peep-] with the riaa is making me nervous. Perhaps the industry will begin to crack down on these things - another irony: that piracy of files and programs are what got so many people to buy their computer products in the first place...

agreed AMD is a bit behind. I believe that it's due to their new 64bit products that they are trying to get out to market. The future of the industry is foggy, nvidia has made some mistakes with their fx product line and now AMD is throwing their lot in with thier 64bit product. At the very least we will have some interesting products to keep us guessing.
