Hi,

Strange and unexplainable (by me) things happen each time I make a clean
re-install of WinXP SP2 and all updates. I do this about every six
months. Please let me hear if you have an explanation.

On the installation I had up to end July, two things.

On every cold startup, the little moving squares which indicate that
Windows is loading, would stop after about 3 iterations. There would be
a 3 or 4 minute wait. They would then resume and windows would load, up
to the call for password entry screen. But then, secondly, my Microsoft
Wireless Desktop Elite keyboard and mouse would freeze when I tried to
enter the password. I would then have to press the restart button on the
computer case, and wait again until the password screen came up, when
the keyboard and mouse would work correctly. BUT, on the first cold
start, if I could time pressing the keyboard key to within about 2
seconds after the password screen appeared, the keyboard would work. One
second would not work, and anything more than 2 seconds would not work
either, and I would have to restart. After that nothing unexplainable
would happen.

On the installation I have now, one thing.

Every time I turn on my Epson C70 printer, I get several screens coming
up saying that the computer has found new hardware, then that there has
been a problem installing the drivers and the printer may not work
properly. After cancelling out all those screens, about four of them,
the printer does work correctly. I have had this printer more than three
years, and it has installed immediately, from either the CD that came
with the printer or with drivers downloaded from the Epson site. I have
tried several times to uninstall the printer and the drivers and to
reinstall them. But it does not correct the situation and I still get
those screens saying the printer drivers have not installed correctly
and the printer may not work correctly.

Sorry for long post.

Royston.

Regarding problem #2.

It would seem that you have a Epson "multi function" printer and that you
did not install the drivers for every function. You are being asked to do
so. When you cancel out of these requests the printer works fine because the
printer drivers "have" been installed. You may find that the scan, and other
functions, do not work though, and will not until you complete the
installation.
