I recently purchased a Canon S400. I was looking for a new compact flash card to buy and I came across the SanDisk 512MB Ultra II CompactFlash Card on costco's web site. It say's its compatable with all CF cards so I'm guessing it is type 1. The question I have is that will this card greatly increase my cameras performance, or just improve upload to my computer speed?

Probably only the 2nd.

Unless you're shooting with a dSLR it's not going to make much difference on the camera.

You may want a faster Card if you plan on using the movie mode. Here card speed matters. As far a shooting with the camera you may not notice any difference with an ultra card. Also note that the ultra card isn't much faster than their regular card. If speed were an issue you would be far better off looking at a Sandisk Extreme or 45x Lexar, or a high speed 45x Coremicro card just to name a few.

Hmmm... Same question here. I'm about to buy the S410.

So it's still a little unclear to me-- would it make sense to buy a 45x speed card? Or is there some other speeds that i should be considering? I'm not sure how significant the price differences are.

I used movie mode on my S330. I think i bought a 12x 128Mb card for that camera.

There's little point in buying a 45x card unless you've got a $2000 camera, because the card will be way faster then the camera. The camera will be your limiting factor, not the speed of the card. I doubt you'd see any difference between the 12x and the 45x.

I would had a tip: don't buy SanDisk CF cards. A friend of mine works at a specialized photo shop and he told me that they stopped selling SanDisk cards because they were so bad. A lot of them got bad sectors and could not be used anymore.

He suggested Lexar instead.

In ancient times they had no statistics so they had to fall back on lies
