How do I use dual monitors with Inspiron 8200

I have a Samsung Syncmaster 570v flat screen monitor with 1024 by 768
native resolution. I'd like to hook it up to my Inspiron 8200 and the
native resolution of that is 1600 by 1200 and it's set at 120dpi. When I
plug the Samsung in both screens default to 1024 by 768 and display the
same screen. Is it possible to keep the I8200 at it's native resolution
and run the Samsung as a second screen top?

And how?
