Why is it that most cpus, fsb, and ata speeds seem to increase in multipules of 33. Why not 25, 50 or so.
Just wondering. never really heard a reason why.

Hmm good question. May have something to do with the static setting for the PCI in which work in that incriment of 33 in which seems to easier on the conversion matrix when taking the clock cycle of a faster cpu to be compatible to the clock cycle of PCI. Just a hunch.

Probably because of the 486 DX33 and 486DX/2-66.

You see, PCI was developed back in the last days of the 486. Early PCI busses ran at either 25MHz or 33MHz. In fact, some cards refuse to run at the proper 33MHz, because they only had to be designed ot work with 25MHz busses back then. Even the BX chipset, which was designed for the PII with a max bus speed of 100MHz, had the 1/4 ratio for PCI in order to run such cards.

Now it's important to remember the 33MHz is actually 33.333...continuous properly, as a ratio of 1/3 of 100. So if computer geeks knew how to use rounding off rules, 66MHz would have been called 67MHz, because it's actually 66.6666...continous.

And that takes us back to the lowely 486DX-33 and 486DX/2-66, with their 33MHz system bus.

Hey jihiggs,

He's probably got this logarithm that figures out how many stars are in a certain parsec of sky and co-relates it with some tangent on a known point and VOILA!!! LOL

Crash works with old or refurbished PCs, if there is anyone who knows old hardware, it's him.

Actually that's the best way to learn all kinds of systems isn't it?

What good is talking about a 1967 1/2 Mustang Fastback if you've never had one?

They are bring back the old 67 Mustang.

It's a good thing we have him to answer all those tuff questions. No matter how old the system is.

This is way off track but it's not the same.

Look at the Cobra (original) and the Series 1 or the original Bug with the New Beetle. No comparison!

Back to the er... subject; yeah I'm glad he's around to answer all these wierd questions. :o ) LOL!!!

Actually if you look at a profile of the new mustang and the current one, you'll notice they have the same roofline. The new body is based on the current body, they simply changed the front 6 inches and tailight area, and some of the trim.

But I hear they are doing more to the underside, with a redesigned suspension.
