My last 2 computers have been AMD's and they've run great for me. I'm having trouble deciding which to get for my next PC. Here's the 2 CPU mobo combo's I'm looking at.

P4 2.6 GHZ 800MHZ FSB ($230)
ASUS P4C800 ($180)
Total = $410
-or-

Athlon XP 2800+ 333FSB($180)
A7N8X Deluxe ($105)
Total = ($300)

Both with 512MB PC3200 DDR Ram (~$100)

It depends on what you want? performance? cheap price? overclockability?
If you want all of them, I recommend 2500+ (which is the best overclockable CPU, even compare to Intel top of the line CPU) with Epox RDA3+ and overclock it. Then you'll get a cheap and high performance system with great overclockability.

If I agree with you... will you shut up?

From what I've been reading XP2500+ nice overclocker. P4 2.4c also nice overclocker. Thats if you decide to OC.

If you don't OC, then go with the 2.6Ghz P4. It will certainly outperform the 2800+ because of its higher FSB and HT... You won't regret it, even if it costs you a bit more.

Also, consider getting a P4P800, not a P4C800. Right now, the P4C800 offers no additional performance difference - but that's just for now, because Intel will be revisioning the i865 chipset to completely disable PAT on Springdale-boards.

Yeah, the perofrmance diference between the springdale and canterwood is very less. Buy the canterood board if u want all the added features it offers.

EDIT: i shud have replied to timberwolf1...sorry Mephis..

Gee just when everyone is having fun with PAT. Intel wants to disable it.

Order the following at Newegg:

ASUS 865PE mb $120
2.4c PIV $175

That is only $295 for a great mb and processor. I bought this combo and, using ASUS' excellent overclocking tool in the BIOS, have my 2.4c running at 2.89ghz at only 27C idle! This is with stock cooling. Without a doubt the best buy you can get at the moment.
