Epson Stylus RX620 giving me two different out of ink errors

The first error pops up when I turn the printer on..."ink cartridges are empty blah blah blah"...no problem. As soon as I hit the OK button on the printer, I get another error message telling me to "open the scanner unit and replace the appropriate BK ink cartridge and close the scanner unit. Then press OK"...when I press OK, the first error pops up again. I click OK and the second error pops up. And it keeps going in circles. Can I not use the scanner without ink? I think I was able to use the scanner with no ink before, but I'm not 100% certain. I do remember a while ago I would only receive only the first error telling me to replace the ink cartridges.

There should be an option on the printer itself or within windows where you can disable notifications like out of ink, etc... Have a look around, especially under "maintenance" on the printer.

Yea the thing is, these errors won't let me use the printer in anyway. All I can do is click the OK button to cycle between the two errors.
