Hello,

Great stuff..... But can you provide or tell us where to get the 1.8e
version in case 1.8f (beta!) has some problems. Or in the best of
case a way to backup the old firmware to disk so one can restore it
???

Many thanx

Gomein

P.S. - I have not tried it yet and would like to know success or
unsuccess stories of the upgrade.... :)

Hello,

I've followed you (in a matter of speak!) and did the firmware. I
noticed that the 4x +RW media is recognized now and had a minor i/o
while writing a DivX file to it but I believe it could be the media
that was not ok.

I tried to do a full format of it and it sucessfully did it.

I believe that the firmware is Ok from the tests I did.

Thanx

Gomein

Matte,

I've tested it with Memorex DVD+RW discs and there was when I found
the error and fixed it with a reformat with verify with InCD (latest
version!).

Seems to be goin along just fine.

Hello Everybody,
First of all I am glad to you have got the firmware update.
By the way, I would like to know if this DVD recorder (Sony DW-P50A)
can write DVD-RW.
Could anybody help me? I did´t try to burn this disk, but I would like
to do, because my DVD player (same brand) don´t read DVD+RW, just
DVD-R.
Thanks in advance.... :D

Helll All,

I have tried with Momorex 4X DVD+RW discs and Sony 1X DVD+RW.
I've burned CD's and all so I think the firmware even if a beta
release
is quite good.

I'm considering buying an nx7000 with a DVD writer. The only thing I
am concerned about is the speed of the hard drive (since I will be
doing DV editing) and the DVD writer. After seeing that there is a
firmware update here, I will probably end up buying it.

Does it write to 8X with the update? And with the update, does it
write faster at all? Is there any update to be able to write to
dual-layer DVD's, so that I can copy DVD movies, which are on
dual-layer DVD's.

Thanks for any help.

Hello,

From the small info that was given to me and from my own expeirence,
1.8F will only add support for 4X DVD+RW media. I will not write at
4X in 4X media it will still write at 2.4X.

From the tests that I performed it is stable and working fine.

Now its your call :D

Is there an update to write to dual layer DVD's though? And will it
write on both layers?

I've got a HP ze5300 laptop with the Sony DW-P50A DVD+RW - I upgraded the
firmware to 1.8f but can't still write to a spindle of 25 TDK DVD+RW 4x
(that says 2.4x compatible on the box).

I'm using Nero 6.0.0.0

Any ideas anyone?

Is there another firmware available?

I never got the chance to try it on 1.8c/e - would it make a difference?
Is there anywhere to get them?

Here's the error log that nero gives out:

Just wondering, doesn't the fact that an external drive is connected
to USB slow it down? I don't think USB is very fast, somewhere around
2MB/s. And isn't a DVD writer considerably faster than that,
especially when you got to 4x and faster?

Consider buying nx7000 series with a DVD Player/CD writer and buy a external
USB DVD 2.0 burner.
I believe that it is cheaper that way and you can easily buy a faster burner
when available.
But if you travel a lot and needs a DVD burner, why not.
The speed of the harddrive is nowhere near a standard disc as the rotation
speed is much lower,
but should be enough for capturing from a DV camera.

I think I will go with an external DVD writer. Can you help me decide
on one?

I am looking for one around $200.

I was looking here:

http://www.everythingusb.com/hardware/Storage/CD_&_DVD_Drives.htm
at some from hp, this one in particular:

http://www.everythingusb.com/hardware/index/HP_DVD_Writer_dvd420ve.htm
And then I also found this one:

http://www.hardwarezoom.com/viewcontent.jsp?ReviewID=193
They both write at 8x, however I will be satisfied with 4x. Has anyone
seen a dual layer external DVD writer?

Thanks for any help.

Hi...I bought a HP laptop zt3050ea on April with the infamous DVD
writer (DW-P50A). I have a problem with it which goes beyond the
firmware update. The DVD writer burns DVD+Rs (I have tried with many
different brands and speeds from 2.4 up to x8 ) but then they are
unreadable (I use Nero the latest version, it burns with no errors at
all, and then the disk drive cannot speed up and doesn't recognize it
at all). Though if i load them to my desktop's DVD drive it's ok!
That is crazy and i am so dissapointed with HP. Last night I tried
some new blank DVDs I bought at x2.4 speed and I thought that the
problem would be solved... :( . Is there anybody that had the same
problem like me? I haven't tried to burn DVD+RW so far. Well, if it
cannot burn and read DVD+R what 's the point...Anybody with any
suggestions at all?

P.S...Oh and i have upgraded the drive to the 1.8f firmware version

Had exactly the same problem as Rowee. I think it's to do with the brand of
the dvd+RW media used.

I tried the following blanks:

SONY
Creation
Intenso
Imation
Verbatim
TDK

Only the latter two worked. All of the above were supposed to be good for
the 1x-4x range. I had already installed Nero 6.6.0.3 and the 1.8f
firmware
