I have done a little playing around with the problem and I have found out a
few things. My problem is that when I try to delete something, it says:
"Cannot delete Dc177: Acess is denied." The only way that I can delete
anything is by right-clicking on a file in the recycle bin and deleting it.
But even that does not fix the problem, when the recycle bin is empty, the
icon shows that the recycle bin is not empty, but no files appear in the
recycle bin. When I click on "Empty the Recycle bin" when it is empty, it
asks me if I want to delete whatever the last item I sent to the recycle bin,
even though the bin is empty. If I click OK, I get thr "Dc177" error. I
have found that I send more than 1 item to the recycle bin and right click on
it to delete it, whatever the last item I deleted becomes the "invisible"
file that I can't delete. I am stumped.

Hi,

What is Dc177? Do you know? In the meantime:

This seems to work for many: Make sure that something is in the Recycle Bin
(delete any file). With the Recycle Bin closed, right click and choose:
Empty Recycle Bin. When the confirm box appears, click ok. Reboot. Now the
Recycle Bin should work correctly.

If the above didn't help:

Files not being listed in the Recycle Bin seem to be related to a corrupt
info2 file. To correct the issue (Fat32):

Go to Start/Run and type in CMD:

Type CD \RECYCLED, and then press ENTER.
Type ATTRIB -r -s -h info2, and then press ENTER.
Type DEL INFO2, and then press ENTER.

NOTE: This deletes the damaged INFO2 file. Windows will recreate this file
as needed, automatically.

You can often restore files even if it is not being listed in the Recycle
Bin by searching (Start/Search) for the files by name, once found rename
them. If the files still cannot be recovered, follow the steps above, then
reboot. They should now be listed.

First off, thank you Kelly for your post. I tried deleting an item and right
clicking like you said. Even though there is only the one item I deleted,
when I try to empty the recycle bin it says if I want to delete the "two"
items. The same error message pops up, saying Dc177, and I have no
information on that errror message. I visited your website and tried your
suggestion with the command entry. The cd\recycled
command brings up "The system cannot find the path specified." Thanks
again, but I still am stumped.

Hi king_bob

Try Kelly's instructions again but using "cd\recycler" (without the
quotes) instead of "recycled".

Thanks for the post nightowl. I tried your directions and the recycler
worked until the next step, the attrib part, after I type it the line comes
up
"file not found - info2."
Maybe the info2 file is not the cause of the problem? Again, whatever
the last item I delete by right clicking becomes the new file that causes the
problem. And that file is not visible in the recycle bin, nor can it be
found by searching for it.

Hi king_bob

It's quite possible the Info2 file is not there; on my system it's in a
sub-folder of Recycler. Info2 is the file that keeps track of what is in
the bin and it does seem a likely suspect, given your symptoms. But
rather than tracking it down, it would be easier to just delete the
Recycler folder and let Windows rebuild it.

Try this: Open a Command window and type :

rd /s /q C:\recycler <enter>

Then exit the Command window and reboot.
When you come back into Windows, don't worry if the bin icon still shows
full. Delete a test file, so there's something in the bin, then try
emptying it.

I really hope this works for you. Please post back and tell us how you
get on. If it doesn't help, I have more things to try :-)

Well, I tried your advice, and I ran into an old friend. I am talking
about "dc177." I opened cmd and typed your code, and got, "
C:\recycler\S-1-5-~1\Dc177.mpg - Acess is denied." Not sure what that means,
only that it appears that the Dc177 file might be the cause of my troubles.
I searched for the dc177.mpg file, (I am assuming it is a movie because of
the .mpg?) and got nothing.
Thanks for your continued support.

Well, all of your work has finally paid off, the recycle bin has been
beaten. I followed your directions and after rebooting, the recycle bin
finally showed empty. After deleting a test file I was finally able to empty
the recycle bin with no hint of "dc177."
Thanks again for your time, I never doubted that you would "beat that
bin" LOL.

Fantastic, king_bob! I'm so glad you've got it tamed now :-)

Happy deleting. . .
