Alienware M9700 series CD-ROM Disabled

I have a Alienware m9700-r1 series lap top with Vista Ultimate. I'm trying to do a system recovery, but my CD-ROM won't work. It opens to let me put the disc in, but won't read it. SO, I go into BIOS to put CD-ROM as first on the bootup screen... however, it says it's disabled. For the life of me, I can't figure out how to get it enabled again. Please help
