First off, this is my first post here so, hello everyone. Now, I just recieved my custom built pc from ABS yesterday. I decided to see how fast it really was so I loaded 3dmark 2001 se and ran the default benchmark. I ended up with a measley score of around 11500. My specs are as follows:

P4 2.8 w/800 fsb
Asus P4S800
1 gig Geil 3200
9500 PRO

Wouldn't you expect a higher score?

I ran some other benchmarks too:

3DMark03:

2393 w/ cpu score of 229! Isn't that an awfully low score for my cpu?

UT2003 DEMO

Flyby: 125fps
botmatch: 63 fps

Any comments? Did I recieve a lemon? Thanks for the help?

All those benchmarks are 3d. Yet you didn't mention what graphics card you have. Leads me to believe you don't know what it is. If you bought this pc from whole. It proboly has a cheap vid card or worse, onboard. Replce it with somthing better like a radeon 9500 or above or Geforce fx 5600 or above. The OEMs do sell fast PCs with crappy graphic to lower the cost.

make sure you have all the latest graphics and chipset drivers installed...

that is not TOO bad for a 9500 pro...but there is room for improvement...

If i put my k6 in a Ferrari it would be faster than your your pentium 4 or Athlon XP

Your right, maybe I should put a radeon 9500 in it....or maybe even the PRO model.....nah. I have the latest catalyst drivers butI'm not sure about the chipset, I've never messed with that. How would I go about updating that?

Well, even if it was recently built the parts weren't necessarily made recently, the driver cd's shipped with the parts will be the latest WHEN the card was made so updated versions will almost always be available. As for which software/drivers to download from the website just look for the latest versions of the stuff you have on the CD's. That's your best bet for what you need.

those benchmarks are not that far off...contrary to what you may beleive the 9500pro is not quite the best card...get the latest bios and drivers for your board and try again...

No, the 9500 PRO may not ne the sharpest knife in the drawer but it's not limp noodle either. Here at Tom's they ran 3dmark with a P4 2.2, 256 megs of RAM, and the 9500 PRO and scored 1111. That's not even 400 points behind my BRAND NEW 2.8 p4 w/800 fsb along with a gig of ram and a 9500 PRO. Something ain't right. Btw, I tried to d-load the latest bios and the Asus servers are down atm.

shameless bump before I go to bed.

p.s. what do you think my score could go up to with a 9700 or even a 9800 PRO?
