Hey all, I am currently looking for a laptop for university studies after summer. I am thinking of getting a Dell because of it's customer services or Toshiba because of looks . My buget will be around $1900 CAN about $1400 US. I want a Ati M9 in the computer and CD-RW, what is the best option for me? Which model will be the best value for money?
Hey, thanks very much for the response. I will be going to University of Waterloo in Computer Engineering. I am not sure if they have it. Right now I am in Alberta, Canada, and they have a 7% GST, while Ontario has 7%GST and 8$PST (totaling 15% Tax) That is why I want to buy now and not at the University.
I have heard that Pentium M is fairly expensive and will it cost a lot more if I buy them? I was going to go for P4M 2Ghz...
yes it will cost alot more...However for good reason...you get a much longer battery life with a pentium M...the p4m is heavly based on the P4 which is a pretty power hungry cpu...
Really it all depends on your needs...if you want ultimate portability then the pentium m is a good choice...
If you want ultimate portability with a budget you could go for a cheepo pIII M sytem from ebay...use that for your first 2 years of collage...once it gets slow upgrade to whatever is out at the time...
If you don't care about battery life...then go for the p4m...the battery should last 3 hours...
Now i have a word of warning about dell laptops...on their webpage and in their advertisments...it does not seem that all of the the cpu's used are pentium 4 m's...there are some strait p4 cpus it seems...If it does not have an M then DO NOT BUY IT!
If i put my k6 in a Ferrari it would be faster than your your pentium 4 or Athlon XP
oh...toms had a comparison between the centrino and the athlon 1700 laptop a while back...the 1700 did very well considering the price to performance to run time ratio...you may also want to consider that if you are on a bit if a budget...

I don't really think I would need 3 year warrenty because after 3 years I probably already have a new system to spar. I am thinking of getting a complete care service just in case I accidentally damages somehow (eg. drops or something)
