Slot 1 Processors 133 vs. 100

Can a Slot 1 800 MHz processor (133 MHz FSB) be used in a Dell PC that
originally came with a 100 MHz FSB? My old Dell needs a new processor but
the only ones that seem easy to find are the 133. Thanks.

Short answer: No, sorry. Won't work. You need a 100mhz FSB CPU.

Depends on the specific model. Others will likely be able to answer if you
post more information.

In simple terms, no, if the motherboard doesn't support a 133FSB processor.
I have two COmpaqs that don't.

Which model of Dell? Odds are probably against a 133MHz Slot 1 CPU working,
because Dell transitioned (almost?) exclusively to Socket 370 for 133MHz FSB.

In addition to support of FSB speeds (100 or 133), a motherboard also needs to
support the voltage required by a CPU. Above 600MHz (with 100MHz FSB), Slot 1
CPUs require operating voltages below 2.0v, in the 1.6v to 1.7v range.

I bought a powerleap processor for my 100mhz fsb motherboard
1.4ghz
runs beautifullly.

check ebay for a 100 mhz fsb cpu. I have seen them at computer shows, used
of course, for like 15 dollars for a 500 mhz.

the only systems that were offered with Slot1 133 support were the early
GX110s and the RDRAM XPS-B***r and corresponding OptiPlexes. The XPS-T,
-R and OptiPlex GX100 will work only with 100 MHz bus CPUs.
