What was correct for Cabinet Paint - I'm getting ready to re-do my F-14 and
let's start with "original" paint I assume it's Enamel? then is it gloss,
semi-gloss? I also need to touch up my taxi.

a) What would I use per original.
b) If I'm going to re-paint the entire cabinet are there good alternatives?

thanks,
rick

I'm in the process right now of doing the same to a Pinbot, and I'm
finding that, unlike what I read here previously, the black that is
the underlying base seems to be gloss, and not semi-gloss. And you are
correct, it is enamel. I tried some semi-gloss Krylon black on my
backbox's side and when I compared it to the rest of the game, it's
just too flat. So on the cabinet side, I used some gloss in spots and
it seems to be a better match. It would be simpler and look better in
the end to just recoat the entire cab in black and redo the artwork,
but as I have yet to find a stencil, I'm masking the artwork and
spraying it, and then I will go back and redo the artwork, probably
with acrylics, since they are easy to fix mixtakes with.

Yeah as I've stated before that's exactly what I ended up doing on my
F-14. It's not too hard as the lines are all straight. Just mask with
blue tape and go to town spraying. I'm sorry I can't remember the red
and yellow that I found matched pretty close but it was off the shelf at
Home Depot. Yes the cab is gloss, not semi.

I've used Krylon "Banner Red" and "Sun Yellow" for the "Williams red &
yellow" on games from early 1980's. Probably the same for F-14. You'd need
Gloss White as well.

I'd shoot the whole cabinet in a gloss black enamel with a high volume gun
first, then do the artwork with the aerosols.
