Why are my own home movies on VHS copy protected

In trying to transfer old home movies from VHS to DVD, some refuse to copy, saying they are copy protected. How can this be as I filmed them myself? I tried taping over the front slot but it still defies me.

  1. well if i remember correctly to copy protect them you had to remove a tab of some sort. perhaps you broke it off so that you wouldnt accidentally overwrite the movies.
  2. The slot on the front of the VHS tape is only to keep you from recording over the existing video. It has nothing to do with copy protection. I don't know why some of the tapes have copy protection unless the camcorder had this as an option. If you google macrovision copy protection filter you will find something that should work.
