nice article on overclockers.com about the ol toaster over (PRESCOTT)

those hoping to buy one and overclock it.. well lets just say keep the fire department on speed dial

this would make even AMDMELTDOWN cringe...

http://www.overclockers.com/articles811/index03.asp

quote i found interesting..

""Given that Prescott will be not too much over 100 sq. mm, we're talking about twice the wattage per sq. mm that the cool-by-comparison Thunderbirds used to chew up. ""

""On top of that, trying to get 130-150 or more watts into the CPU could quite possibly make voltage regulators do new, exciting things like melt a few layers deeper into the motherboard. SPMDS (Sudden Prescott Motherboard Death Syndrome) could become a new acronym; cooling of the voltage regulators will probably become essential for the non-suicidal overclocker."

So you think Prescott will flop. But!!! A64 will not?

Interesting though.
People are/were expecting prescott to gallop away, leaving the A64 in the dust...

But things are never that simple, With a Hot chip that doesnt scale well.. so there might be a chance for AMD still.

Interesting to see how well intel can refine the design and cut the thermal output.

They should increase the amount of copper layer interconnects. Should definitely make a big difference, like on the Tbred.

It is fun to talk about who will have the better chip. That's if they can get them out on time.
