Unless the laptop has surround sound out (usually through an optical out port) you will be limited to the stereo sound from the headphone out jack. You'll probably just need a 3.5mm to RCA adapter to hook that up.

using a 3.5mm to RCA will give a true surround sound (theater typ), or dere will be degradation of sound quality. how about connecting a 5.1 channel sound card???...will dat make a great difference??

Is that first part a question?

Yes, an add-one sound card with outputs that match your stereo would work. Although the laptop sound card should be able to do 5.1, it probably does not have 5.1 outputs. Check the manual though before you go out and buy stuff.
