Hallo NG!
WindowsXP/HE SP2, OfficeXP/Pro SP3, VB5E, CPU P4/2.8G, 1GB Ram
My recycle bin on the desktop is empty.
My recycle bin as seen in explorer in 'C:\Recycled' is empty.
When I use Start->Run->C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe and make a
'cd recycled' to 'C:\Recycled' and then a 'dir' I see a bunch
of files and folders that were deleted by me some time ago.
I dont see these files/folders in explorer at any place although
'Show hidden files and folders' under 'Options...' is marked.
I found the files/folders by accident when performing a filesearch
with AgentRansack.exe and so could retrieve a long time missing file.
Where are these files/folders *really* located?

could be anywhere on the disk since deleting them only
deletes the address the file system uses to keep track of them,
that's why when you searched for missing files you were lucky to
find them : they have not yet been written over by new files

Thanks Alasdair, but that means to me that the DIR-command doesnt
rely on the windows file system. How that? And AgentRansack is a
Windows search-utility (with a nice GUI).

Delete the recycled folder. It will be recreated on next bootup, free of
any files within.

That is not the problem. I can delete them easily from cmdbox prompt also.
But why are they shown at all? And I can use a cmd-copy to retrieve them.
Under a
GUI they are not accessible.
